Getting a Hawaii insurance producer license (also called insurance agent license) is regulated by the Hawaii Insurance Division under the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA). Hawaii requires state exams and fingerprints (Fieldprint, within 7 days of application) for Life, Health, Property, Casualty, Adjuster, Surplus Lines, and other lines. Business entities need Designated Responsible Licensed Producer. Apply via NIPR. No federal license—state-only.

🚨 2026 Updates: Life Settlement Broker requires 1-year active Life producer license. Reinsurance Intermediary renewals need active Producer license. Fingerprint window tightened to 7 days post-application. Non-residents exempt from prints if home state compliant.

Hawaii License Requirements (2026)

Eligibility: Age 18+, Hawaii resident, clean criminal record, US citizen/permanent resident.
Pre-Licensing Education: NOT REQUIRED (recommended 20–40 hours).
State Exam: Prometric/PSI. $50–$90 fee. 100–150 questions, 70% pass, 2 hours.
Fingerprints: Required (Fieldprint, $51.50). Within 7 days of application. ORI code via cca.hawaii.gov/ins.
Application: NIPR post-exam/prints. $51–$100 fee per line. Processing: 5–15 days.
Renewal: Biennial, 24 CE hours, $51 fee. Retaliatory fees apply via NIPR.
